Officials today [Published: Monday, January 18, 2010,] are unveiling renderings of the statue honoring former heavyweight boxing champion Larry Holmes that will overlook the street that also bears his name.
The proposed 9-foot bronze statue of the Easton Assassin will stand in Scott Park across the street from the building that houses the champ’s offices and restaurant, Larry Holmes Ringside Restaurant & Lounge.
Jim Jennings, president of the public relations firm Waterbucket Media, estimates the statue will cost about $250,000, which will be raised through a fundraising campaign.
A 2008 inductee into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, Holmes holds a 69-6 career record, including 44 KOs. Holmes won the WBC heavyweight title in June 1978 after a 15-round decision over then-champion Ken Norton.
